What’s The Difference Between Archival Framing & Ordinary Framing?

Unlike ordinary photo framing, archival framing is designed to last a lifetime. The secret to keeping your photos and prints looking brand new for decades is in our 100% rag, acid-free mats and backing. Here at Hampton Photo Arts, we use Peterboro Conservation mats, which meet or exceed The Library of Congress and Fine Art Trade Guild standards for chemical composition. Wood frames can cause chemical damage so for archival framing, Hampton Photo Arts offers a wide variety of custom metal frames to suit your individual needs.

The style and size of the frame should be coordinated with the artwork and any matting or other decorative elements that will be used. The goal is a balanced design that enhances and provides a good presentation for the art, without overwhelming it.

This is the process of flattening artwork to a backing board using heat, not moisture. A sheet of dry adhesive material that resembles wax paper is sandwiched between the artwork and the backing board. They are then slid into a heat press that melts the adhesive and forms a permanent bond to both sides.

Custom cut mats can be ordered online or by phone. Orders placed before 12:30pm will be finished that day. All orders placed after 12:30pm will be ready the following day. Please provide us with the OSD (Outside Demension or Frame Size) and ISD (Inside Demension or Size of Artwork) along with the mat color you would like. Colors available for phone and online orders include:
